Breakfast at School:
Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that ALL waivers providing free meals to ALL students have expired. Please fill out a free and reduced application for the 2022-2023 school year. This means that all students purchasing a full breakfast at school will be charged based on meal status. However, if students select only a la-carte items, they will be required to pay.
Eating breakfast is an important start to the academic day. To maximize learning, students need to start each day with a healthy meal. Since mornings can be hectic and sometimes students do not have time to eat breakfast before the bus comes, Flushing Community Schools offers breakfast in each building.
School breakfast includes entree, fresh/canned fruit, 100% fruit juice, and low fat or fat-free milk.
Help your child start the day right with school breakfast!

Flushing Community Schools is proud of our Child Nutrition staff and the meals that they offer every school day. Good nutrition is an important part of a child's education. Without access to adequate nutrition, learning is hampered. If your child is eligible to participate in the Free or Reduced School Meal Plan, it is important to submit your information in a timely manner.
Please note that for anyone using the Food Benefit Program (Free or Reduced Lunch Program), a new application must be submitted at the beginning of every school year, unless you received a letter in August from the Child Nutrition Department stating you are pre-qualified. If your child is new to the district, an application must be filled out and approved before your child starts receiving free and reduced meals. Please send a sack lunch with your child or plan on paying full price for your child's meals until you receive an approval letter from the Child Nutrition Department. For those who attended Flushing Community Schools in 2021-2022 and were approved for the 2021-2022 school year, you have until October 12, 2022, to submit your new application.
Applications are for a full family, so only one is required to be submitted per family. Please allow time for application approval, as this process can take up to two weeks. Please note you must pay for meals until your application has been approved.
You can use the Online Free & Reduced Lunch Application link to apply starting August 9, 2022. We encourage you to use the on-line application as it is more secure and quicker. For those who are unable to submit online, paper applications for the Food Benefit Program for the 2022-2023 school year will be available in the main office. The Eligibility Guidelines will help you to determine if you are eligible for Free or Reduced meals. Reading this Frequently Asked Questions document might help as you prepare to fill out the Free & Reduced application.
