Message from Superintendent Matt Shanafelt - November 15, 2020
November 15, 2020 - Message from Superintendent Matt Shanafelt: I wanted to take a brief moment to update you regarding the status of school, as a follow up to the MDHHS order and Governor Whitmer’s update this evening. With the latest order taking effect starting this Wednesday, November 18, 2020, it is our intention to continue with our current teaching and learning plan this Monday and Tuesday for all students in grades K-12. Per the order, all Flushing High school students will start 100% remote learning this Wednesday. More information will be shared with you tomorrow, including the additional details of the online high school schedule as well as any possible impact to our learning plan for elementary and middle school students going forward. Taking into account the various needs of all of our students and families, in coordination with the Genesee County Health Department, it has been our intention to remain in school using our hybrid learning model as long as we can maintain the necessary staffing levels and as long as it can be done safely and effectively. None of the decisions we are making are easy as we seek to make sure our staff and students are kept healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally while providing a safe, sustainable and highly effective teaching and learning model for all of our students and staff members. We greatly appreciate your ongoing understanding and support during this time, and we will share additional details regarding any change to our learning plans with you tomorrow evening. Thank you.
